Giving Back Through the Hunt: How Olmec Reflections’ Owner Helps Feed Ohio Families

At Olmec Reflections, we believe in more than just cleaning carpets — we believe in caring for our community. That’s why we’re proud to highlight our owner, Don Boling, who was recently featured in The Ohio Newsroom for his incredible volunteer work with Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry (FHFH), a nonprofit dedicated to fighting food insecurity across Ohio.

Turning a Passion for the Outdoors into Purpose

Every fall, when deer season begins, Don trades in his business tools for his hunting gear. But for him, hunting isn’t just a hobby — it’s a way to give back. Through FHFH, Don and other Ohio hunters donate their deer harvests to be processed into ground venison, which is then distributed to local food pantries and community meal centers at no cost.

“It’s simple,” Don shared in his interview. “There’s no need for anybody to be hungry when we have a resource like this. Why not use the resource?”

The program covers the cost of processing the meat — around $100 per deer — and turns each harvest into hundreds of servings for families in need. Last year alone, Ohio hunters donated over 80,000 pounds of venison, creating roughly 300,000 servings for communities across the state, including right here in Butler County.

Feeding Neighbors, One Deer at a Time

As one of 25 Ohio coordinators for FHFH, Don helps connect local hunters, butchers, and food banks. What was once a simple effort to manage deer populations has become a lifeline for many families struggling with rising grocery costs.

Local food pantry leaders say the venison donations have been a game changer. With beef prices up 50% since 2020, this fresh, lean protein helps fill a critical gap. At the Community Meal Center in Butler County, ground venison is now a staple ingredient in casseroles, stews, and chili served to anyone who’s hungry.

A Reflection of Who We Are

At Olmec Reflections, community care is at the heart of what we do — whether it’s helping customers feel proud of their homes or supporting local families in need. Don’s dedication to using his skills and passions to help others embodies the same spirit that drives our business every day: hard work, integrity, and service to others.

We’re proud of Don for representing Olmec Reflections in such a meaningful way and for reminding us that small acts of kindness — and even a love of the outdoors — can make a big impact.
